"Mystery Science" came long before "Eeavis"

Editor:

As a big fan, I feel I must take the Wildcat (and KVOA, Channel 4) to task for yesterday's stories on the truly original series "Mystery Science Theater 3000." I believe both of those stories implied that "MST 3K" was influenced by MTV's pale imitator, "Beavis and Butt-head."

Well, it wasn't. "Mystery Science Theater 3000" was created in 1989, well before "Beavis and Butt-head" existed and well before the inception of the cable channel Comedy Central. If anything, "Beavis" was influenced by "MST 3K" and Mike Judge should be owing Joel Hodgson some pretty hefty royalties.

I absolutely loved the free screening Wednesday night. Please, local media and general public, don't be stupid enough to think after that screening that a show like "Beavis and Butt-head" has an idea good enough to influence any other show, let alone "MST 3K."
