Arizona senior Martin Keino captured the individual title and led the Wildcat men to the Pacific 10 Conference championship Saturday in Palo Alto, Calif.
Arizona's low team score of 49 points claimed the team title over Washington (58). UCLA and Oregon tied for third (97), and Stanford finished fifth with 103 points. The last Arizona team title came in 1991.
Keino finished the 8,000-meter run through the Stanford University golf course in 24 minutes, 4 seconds, becoming the fifth Wildcat to win the conference title. He finished the race 25 seconds ahead of UCLA's Mebrahtom Keflezighi, the runner-up.
Arizona freshman Bob Keino, Martin's younger brother, was the second Wildcat to cross the finish line Saturday. He placed fourth (24:45), sophomore Margarito Casillas placed 12th (25:09), junior Art Jimenez placed 14th (25:12) and junior Jeff Haynes placed 18th (25:17).
The Arizona women's cross country team placed third overall Saturday, finishing behind conference champion Stanford and runner-up Oregon.
Wildcat senior Suzanne Castruita placed third overall, finishing the 5,000-meter course in 17:12. UCLA's Karen Hecox won the race in 17:00.
