A softball bat-wielding father and his wife were arrested early Tuesday after threatening their daughter's boyfriend.
Police are seeking charges of domestic violence and disorderly conduct against Michael P. McCartney, 43, and Barbara A. McCartney, 42, both of the 1000 block of West Dragoon Springs Place.
The 17-year-old boyfriend ran up to police in the 1000 block of North Highland Avenue and said he and his girlfriend were talking outside a sorority house when the woman's mother came out of the house yelling. Then the woman's father reportedly jumped out of a bush and chased him with the bat.
Police located the woman and her parents in an alley south of the Center for Computing and Information Technology. The parents were reportedly screaming at the police that the boyfriend was "an ex-con" who had started their daughter on drugs and smoking.
Police smelled alcohol on the father's breath.
Both parents resisted police when asked to step aside so officers could speak to the daughter, requiring more officers on the scene.
During the interview with the daughter, the father screamed, "I'll get you smart-aleck son of a bitch. Wait until this is over . I'll kill you, you son of a bitch."
Police determined the 18-year-old daughter was an adult and let her leave the scene with her boyfriend in a police car. When the car pulled away, the mother ran after the car and had to be restrained by police.
Then the father reportedly fractured a policeman's arm when he tried to help his wife.
Michael P. McCartney was booked at Pima County Detention Center.

In yesterday's "Police Beat," there was an entry that stated Kenneth M. White, 21, of the 2300 block of East Helen Street, was arrested for smoking marijuana at the UA football game Saturday.
While this report is founded, it has come to the Wildcat's attention that there is another Kenneth M. White, who is a UA economics/finance senior. He is a member of Alpha Tau Omega fraternity and the club rugby team. This Kenneth M. White is in no way connected with the arrest.
Police Beat is compiled from official University of Arizona Police Department reports.
