The Arizona volleyball team made quick work of its opponents this weekend, first defeating Cal State-Northridge in four games, then going on to sweep both Hofstra and San Diego State.
In the opening match of the ASICS Grand Prix Tournament in San Diego Friday night, UA outside hitters Melissa Ferris and Barb Bell combined for 42 kills to lead the Wildcats to the 15-12, 15-9, 14-16, 16-14 victory.
Saturday morning, the Wildcats beat Hofstra, 15-9, 15-8, 15-6. Sophomore Barb Bell led the way with 13 kills and six digs against the Flying Dutchwomen.
That evening, Arizona defeated San Diego State, 17-15, 15-12, 15-6.

All-America senior Martin Keino and his brother, Bob, finished one-two to lead the Arizona men's cross country team to victory Saturday at the Iowa Invitational in Iowa City, Iowa.
The UA women, led by senior Suzanne Castruita's No. 1 finish, took second place behind Penn State in the women's competition of the five-team invitational, the Wildcats' first meet of the 1994 season.
Martin Keino finished the 8,000-meter course in 25 minutes, 31 seconds, and his younger brother Bob was 20 seconds behind him in his Arizona debut. Five Wildcat men finished in the top 10 of the 44-man field, scoring 24 points (low score wins), easily outdistancing second place Illinois, which finished with 63.

The Arizona women's soccer team lost to Nebraska 2-1 in the first game of the Lady Griz Inaugural Soccer Showdown in Missoula, Mont.
The results of Arizona's second game against Montana yesterday were not available at press time.
