Students throughout the state will be able to speak tonight with gubernatorial candidates via satellite for the first time.

But University of Arizona-Sierra Vista and Arizona State University-West audiences will only be able to watch the debate, while students at the three main university campuses and at Northern Arizona University's Yuma campus can interact with the candidates through satellite TV.

Democratic candidates Eddie Basha and Paul Johnson will be in Room 211 of the Harvill Building from 7-9:30 tonight.

Republican candidate Barbara Barrett and Libertarian John Buttrick will be at Arizona State University during the debate.

Democrat Terry Goddard and Gov. Fife Symington will not attend the forum because of scheduling conflicts, said members of their staffs. Both are sending stand-ins, said Paul Allvin, executive director of the Arizona Students' Association, a statewide student lobbying group that is sponsoring the event.

Students at each campus will submit written questions. Each campus will get to ask two questions.
