UA rugby club returns to Tucson with 2 wins

The Arizona club rugby team opened its season this weekend with a pair of wins in the Northwest.

Yesterday, Arizona dominated Reed College in Portland 59-0. Freshman wing Chris Kron scored four tries while George Hadjipavlou and Steve Lemieux added two tries each.

Senior Brandon Cristensen scored a try and anchored the forwards, who had, according to head coach Dave Sitton, one of their best days.

"Our forwards played as well as they have in years," Sitton said. "Brandon really lifted the forward position with his play."

Saturday, Arizona squeaked past Oregon State in Corvallis. Trailing 12-11, Kron scored a try as time expired to give the Wildcats a 16-12 win.

Chris Everett scored the other Arizona try and Chris Bloomer and Hadjipavlou both added field goals for the visiting team.

Arizona returns home to host the inaugural Domino's Wildcat Invitational Nov. 18 at Rincon Vista Field.
