Editor:
I just read a letter to the editor from James Tripodes ("Affirmative Action creates separation," Oct. 11) and it disappoints me.
Tripodes describes Affirmative Action as "giving another group more advantages". I always thought minorities had fewer advantages than the white majority. Tripodes neglects to see that many minorities start out with fewer advantages than everyone else.
Affirmative Action is an attempt to combat the economic and racial disadvantages that many minorities are born with. If I was forced to live in a lower class setting I would call that a disadvantage and not an advantage. I think Tripodes is blind to this fact and it worries me, since he is a political science major. Open up your eyes to all of the facts.
