NEW YORK Ÿ An investment banker accused of assaulting a flight attendant and defecating on a food-service cart during a United Airlines flight was grounded yesterday.

Authorities said Gerard B. Finneran, 58, started pouring drinks on himself during a flight from Buenos Aires to New York on Oct. 20. When flight attendants tried to stop him, he threatened one and shoved another into a seat, according to court papers.

Later, Finneran lowered his pants and defecated on the food cart, authorities said, using linen napkins as toilet paper.
