Rape Awareness Week

"United Against Rape" is the theme for this week's fifth annual Rape Awareness Week and its coinciding events.

Rape Awareness Week, sponsored by the Associated Students of the University of Arizona's Campus Acquaintance Rape Educators (CARE) and Student Health's Promotion and Preventive Services, starts with events today through Friday.

Today, a banner-revealing party will be held at the Arizona-Sonora Residence Hall volleyball courts from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. The contest, open to residence halls, minority groups and ethnic organizations, seeks to find the banner with the best theme or message.

Events also will be held on the UA Mall tomorrow and Wednesday between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., and at the Student Recreation Center Thursday and Friday from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Events include booths presented by the UA Police Department, CARE, the Women's Resource Center, Frisky Business, Students Against Acquaintance Rape, ADO Peers, Campus Health Promotion, the ASUA Escort Services, CAPS, and the Tucson Rape Crisis Center.

A media event will be held on the Mall from noon to 1 p.m. on Wednesday to sign a signature board on which people can write their comments on rape and show support from community and university leaders.
