The University of Arizona is seeking funding for a new work-study program.
"The program would give students career-related experiences," said Phyllis Bannister, director of financial aid. "An architecture student could be placed in a design firm and work on a construction project."
The university is requesting $1.25 million from the state Legislature to fund the program. The state would pay half of the student's salary and the employer would pay the other half.
"I'm impressed (and) excited because I've never heard of the administration asking for additional funding for financial aid before," said Ben Driggs, Associated Students president.
If the state Legislature appropriates money to the program, it could pay 100 students $2,000 a year.
