Some readers apparently were confused by Friday's issue of the Wildcat. Somehow, they thought, one of our April Fool's Day stories had been slipped into the "real" paper.
The story in question was titled, "Wong again contests vote process."
"This has to be a joke," some said. "We can't possibly be going through this again!"
But it was no joke. Having lost as a write-in candidate in the original election for student body president, having made a successful court challenge to force a second election, and having again lost to T.J. Trujillo _ this time by a thousand votes _ Jason Wong was making another appeal.
Today, however, students can breathe a sigh of relief. The Associated Students Supreme Court will not hear Wong's second appeal. There will not be a third election.
Wong reached a compromise with the court on Friday, and this agreement shows student government in rare form _ acting responsibly in the interest of students.

In an effort to boost Trujillo's campaign, the Interfraternity Council and the Panhellenic Association circulated a flier about Wong stating, "In essence, Jason feels that Greeks are discriminatory and that if ASUA assists Greek organizations, it would be the same as helping the KKK and other racist organizations.
"People like Jason end up in ASUA when Greeks don't support their own."
The IFC and Panhellenic also rented vans to drive voters from greek houses to the polls.
These actions will do nothing to improve the image of the greek community, and they may well have violated ASUA's campaign rules. It was no surprise Wong was upset.
But on the other hand, going through another appeal would have accomplished nothing. The best Wong could have hoped for was another election, which he surely would have lost. Two in three voters had chosen Trujillo. The students had already
And so Wong and the court arrived at the best possible solution: Trujillo will be the next student body president, and the Supreme Court will investigate the actions of the IFC and Panhellenic.
If ASUA follows through with that investigation _ and if something is done to curb the greek community's will to conduct dirty campaigns _ this year's entire mess of an election might have accomplished something after all. Read Next Article
