Four assaults were reported Thursday night at the opening of last weekend's Spring Fling festivities.

Hector Pinedo, 18, of the 100 block of South Calle Avenida De Porvenir, was arrested and charged with minor in possession of alcohol and two counts of aggravated assault. He was arrested after an officer saw him attack another man near the exit of Spring Fling.

The officer said he saw Pinedo approach the victim and strike him in the face. When the victim stumbled and fell, Pinedo and two friends jumped him and started kicking and punching him.

Pinedo's friends, John Cadena, 19, of the 2900 block of North Walnut Road and a 17-year-old boy, were also arrested and charged with minor in possession and disturbing the peace.

After calling for backup, the officer attempted to break up the fight and was struck by Pinedo in the process. Pinedo ran and the officer pursued. Backup arrived and police were able to apprehend Pinedo, but reportedly were forced to hit him eight to ten times with batons before he would stop struggling.

Pinedo was arrested and taken to Pima County Jail for processing.

A 19-year-old female reported damage to her vehicle and an assault that occurred behind the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity, 1509 E. Second St., where she had parked her car.

The victim said she parked her vehicle behind the fraternity at 9:30 p.m. Thursday when she went to Spring Fling. She said when she returned at midnight, several milk cartons were stacked on top of the vehicle and a 12-inch tear in the shape of the letter L was in the convertible top.

She said several members confronted her shortly after she returned and said she should not have parked behind their house. At this point an argument began between the victim's friend and another female that resulted in an altercation between the two.

A 14-year-old juvenile reported being assaulted by two other youths while approaching the exit of Spring Fling near midnight.

The victim said he was confronted by one of the suspects who asked him, "Do you have a problem?" The victim reportedly answered, "No" and walked away. At that point, one of the suspects hit him in the face and both suspects began hitting and kicking the victim when he fell.

The suspects ran away when a man was able to pull them off the victim.
