The Arizona men's club rugby team got exactly what it wanted from Arizona State Ä a decisive 35-6 win.
Knowing that a win over ASU would tie them with the Sun Devils in the final league standings, the Wildcats dominated the entire game to close out the season on a high note.
Arizona has won six consecutive matches over ASU, and is 29-12-2 against the Sun Devils since the series began in 1976.
The Wildcats took control of the game with the help of trys by Kendall Welsh, Eric Weaver, Josh Glaser, Chris Everett and Tim Goodrich, who scored his first try with Arizona.
Arizona was able to control most of the game against a truly out-matched ASU squad, which fought an uphill battle all afternoon.
Arizona State was only able to tally two penalty kicks for the game Ä a game in which UA coach Dave Sitton wanted to send his seniors off in a good way.
"The last match in our seniors' career is important," Sitton said. "It is especially so because we are facing Arizona State."
The win gives UA something to build on going into next season's tough schedule. Youth hurt the Wildcats this season but the last five matches this year have been nothing but positive.
Wins over UC Santa Cruz, Ohio State, Kansas and the ASU win are just a few of the reasons that the future is so bright for the Wildcat rugby team.
Arizona will end its season next weekend when the team plays the Rio Grande All Stars at Estevan Park.
