Baseball takes on tough BYU

For many teams, pre-conference play is the time for beating up on the little guys, the chumps and the pretenders that help build up win streaks heading into conference play.

Not Arizona.

After winning their season-opening series last weekend against the Western Athletic Conference's second-place team, New Mexico, the Wildcats play host to that conference's defending champion, Brigham Young, starting today at 2:30 p.m. at Sancet Field.

"I felt if we play tough opponents early, it will prepare us for the toughest conference (the Pacific 10 Southern Division) in the country," UA coach Jerry Kindall said. "We need to improve over last weekend's performance, and playing a tough team will help us do that."

After sweeping Texas El-Paso Monday, the Arizona men's tennis team quickly returned to the courts Tuesday to see if it could win its second straight match.

It could.

The Wildcats (2-0) beat Utah 4-3 at Robson Tennis Center.

The final match between Arizona's James Rey and Brad Hasna decided the winner of the dual meet.

In the end, Rey came back to beat Hasna 5-7, 7-5, 6-3, to give the dual-match win to the Wildcats.
