SOFTBALL
A throwing error gave the No. 1 UA softball team a 7-6 win over Cal State-Fullerton and gave the Wildcats the PONY tournament title Sunday afternoon in Fullerton, Calif.
With the score tied 6-6 in the ninth inning, Brandi Shriver moved from first to third on a double by Krista Gomez in the ninth inning. When CSUF shortstop Julie Williams threw to second trying to retire Gomez, the ball bounced away and Shriver scored the decisive run.
Carrie Dolan (19-0) pitched all nine innings for the win and Brandi Isgar (10-2) went the distance for the sixth-ranked Titans.
The Wildcats (36-1) came back from a 3-0 deficit with three runs in the third and two more in the fifth. Williams hit a two-run homer to help Fullerton get three more runs in fifth to regain the lead.

BASEBALL
The Arizona baseball team found itself in another close contest against Southern Cal, but as has happened many times, it couldn't shut the door.
The Trojans capitalized on four Wildcat errors to earn an 11-8 victory Sunday in Los Angeles.
The Wildcats (15-19-1 overall, 3-9 in the Pacific 10 Conference South) have won just one of the last 10 meetings with the men from Troy.
"History is varied," Kindall said. "What the past record was had no bearing. We wanted to win the games and keep our conference hopes alive."
With the score knotted 8-8 in the seventh, the Trojans touched Matt Hendren (1-4) for a run in the bottom of the inning and then two more in the eighth.

CLUB RUGBY
The UA men's club rugby team is just now building up the momentum it wanted earlier in the season. Better late than never.
With wins over Ohio State and Kansas, the Wildcats are playing like a team to be reckoned with.
At 7-7 overall with two regular-season matches left, the Wildcats can continue their winning ways today at 4 p.m. against Air Force at Estevan Rugby Field.
But this matchup will be a test for the youthful squad, which is still learning the complex game.
Air Force has defeated the Wildcats in six consecutive games, but all have been very closely contested matches that either team could have won.
