rector of the center.

But despite the mid-semester opening, Summers said the Aramark Corporation, the company that operates the new restaurants, is doing even more business than they expected.

On Monday, Chick-fil-A's first day of business, the center did "double the business we expected," he said. "The student clientele have been more than receptive."

Low said it is still too early to tell if the privatization efforts have been successful, but said the partnership appears to be working for both the university and Aramark. The university is considering privatization of the main Student Union as an option to fund a $30-$50 million phased rebuilding project.

Summers said he thinks a similar partnership with a private company would also work with the Union, since private companies are generally "more susceptible to change" and are trained to work with food vendors. He said the ultimate decision would need to be based on the students.

And the idea of privatization has met with mixed reviews among students.

"This is definitely a lot better; I like the private restaurants better," said Alan Cook, an exercise and sports sciences senior who was eating at Chick-fil-A yesterday. He said he has eaten at Park Center more frequently since the new restaurants opened there.

But other students are less enthusiastic about the center's changes.

"I am very disappointed. I will never eat there again," said physics freshman Kathy Rohlik, about her meal at the new chicken restaurant. "It's too bad because we were all looking forward to the restaurant opening."

Rohlik and her friends said they were disappointed that Burger King, McDonald's and Taco Bell were not among the center's new restaurants. They also said they miss the bagel sandwiches that were available before the changes, but agreed that they like the Sausage Deli.
