Tennis player earns All-America honors

University of Arizona women's tennis player Vicky Maes has been selected as an All-American for the 1995 season.

Maes, a freshman from Belgium, advanced to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Singles Tournament in May. Her final rank in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's poll was 22nd.

The women's tennis team (16-7) was ranked eighth in the ICA's final poll.

Baseball program signs top local prospect

Omar Moraga, an All-State baseball player from Sunnyside High School, signed a letter of intent last week to play at Arizona.

Moraga, a utility infield player, hit .447 this year and had 18 stolen bases in 22 attempts. In 1995, he was named First Team All-City, Player of the Year, and made his second All-State team.

UA swimmers spark Hillenbrand club

Hillenbrand of Tucson swim team made waves this weekend as they swept 3rd place overall at the Mission Viejo Swim Meet of Champions in California.

Team stand-outs were Crissy Leighton (posting a 1:01.4 in the 100 Butterfly) and Chad Carvin, who won most events he entered, said head coach, Frank Busch.

While most teams were from California, there were several from Pheonix, Las Vegas and Canada.
