Today is Arizona Students' Association's Ninth Annual Legislative Conference at the Capitol Building in Phoenix.

Students will eat lunch with their legislators and hear numerous speeches from representatives, senators, and the speaker of the house.

There will also be workshops involving lobbying and the legislative process, presented by ASA board members and Arizona State University lobbyists.

At 7 p.m., students will attend the GOP Presidential Candidates' Forum at Arizona State University.

"This day will be the one time you can talk directly with your legislators," UA Associated Students President Ben Driggs said.

The Work Study Bill, which states that students who apply for financial aid will be placed in off-campus jobs in their fields of study, is waiting to be heard by the state Legislature's appropriations committee. ASA Director Julie Rice said this program will provide "economic development for the community and valuable work experience for students."

A proposal to publicize teacher evaluations unanimously passed the Instruction and Curricular Policy Committee last week. The ICPC is a subcommittee of the Faculty Senate. The proposal will be heard by the entire Faculty Senate and voted either March 4 or April 1.
