Develop new bike routes or have more cops

Editor:

I am writing in response to the arguments made about the UAPD and the bike laws. I ride my bike on campus, and I have felt that some areas on campus are not very friendly towards bikes . I can understand why some riders would choose to neglect some of the laws directed at them. I do feel that the main problem is just plain traffic on campus, be it foot, pedal, or vehicle. Most campuses I have visited keep the cars away from the students. In fact, some colleges don't let freshmen or sophomores have cars on campus. Parking is terrible, cars roll past classes with the bass turned up, students cross the street without looking, and the bikers run stop signs. I feel that if you move the cars off the main part of campus you would start to solve the problem. Get a group of people to develop a way to route pedestrians and the bicyclists, and everyone will be happier. If not, we'll need more cops to ticket the bicyclists, the jaywalkers, and the people walking in the bike lane (seeing as it illegal for me to ride where they walk).
