University police issued a community warning yesterday for a suspect in recent campus area thefts.

The suspect is wanted in connection with larcenies in McClelland Hall, Arizona Cancer Center, the Architecture building and the Main Gate building. He has been seen removing backpacks and stereo equipment, and rummaging through desk drawers.

Police reports indicate the suspect takes advantage of his age and appearance to blend in with normal activities. All crimes have occurred Monday through Friday between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m.

The suspect is described as a 5-foot-8-inch White or Hispanic male between 18 and 21 years old. Witnesses said he weighs approximately 170 lbs. with a "stocky" build. He reportedly has brown eyes, a tanned complexion and black hair shaved close to the scalp.

University police urge anyone who sees someone matching this description loitering in buildings or looking through desks to call 911.
