Throughout the past few weeks, ASUA candidates have been petitioning themselves and their respective platforms across campus. Their names adorn our classrooms and dormitories, yet few people actually know, or care, who these people are. However, when it is impossible to schedule a class, or numerous other problems arise, it's the student government who gets the finger pointed at.

The first point I want to make is to say that while our government and candidates may not be representative of the campus as a whole, or 100 percent pure in motives, at least they care enough about the school to make an effort to improve what they see wrong with it. For those candidates who do believe in campus improvement and various other reforms, thank you and good luck. Nevertheless, I respect all these people and applaud their efforts.

As for the other students here, it is no wonder our student government is viewed as ineffective, when only a mere 1,700 out of 35,000 plus turn out to vote on election days.

Get to know these people and decide for yourself who is worthy of being elected to serve you. ASUA is not just for the Greeks, or the dorm residents, but it's for all the students here. This means you.

There are some candidates running this year (and every year) who have great ideas that can really benefit this school. These are real people who care. If you want to make a difference and don't have the time to dedicate a year of your life to the UA, at least take a few minutes on Tuesday and Wednesday to vote for someone who does. Above that, get to know these people: they can't represent who they don't know.
