A Tucson man was arrested by university police twice in two days last week after he reportedly yelled profanities in separate incidents.In the first incident, police responded to an anonymous report of a man yelling obscenities in the Mall area south of the Student Union at 11:25 a.m., June 4.
When police arrived, the man was recognized by officers as Stuart A. Green, 29, of the 600 block of East Ninth Street. Green was recognized because of previous contacts with university police.
Reports stated that Green was yelling for former President George Bush. He also yelled about drug and alcohol use by students, demanding that the military "flatten" the UA campus. Green reportedly yelled profanities to officers and bystanders in the area, screaming for police to "arrest me, bitch."
Green was told he could go to "Speaker's Corner" on the Mall to talk freely, but he refused. Green was then arrested and taken to Pima County Jail on a charge of third degree criminal trespass.
The next day, police were called to the UA Associated Students Bookstore after an "agitated man" entered just after 3 p.m. and demanded a refund on a free book.
According to police reports, Green was seeking a refund on a 1995-97 General Catalog, which is free to the public.
Bookstore employees told police Green walked up to the counter and said, "Give me my money." When the employee told him no refund could be given, Green said, "Give me my money, or I'll beat you over the head." Police reports state when Green was again inf ormed no refund could be given, he said, "Give me my money, or I'll kill you."
Witnesses told police Green had his fist clenched so hard his knuckles were white.
Officers arrived at 3:07 p.m. and asked Green to turn around and place his hands behind his back. Green said he had to do something first, and began to tear apart the catalog.
Green said, "Fuck you, bitch" to the officer and continued yelling "Fuck" at the people in the bookstore.
Green was taken to the UAPD headquarters, then on to the Kino Institute, where he was committed as a danger to himself and others, police reports stated.
The catalog was entered into evidence.
A suspicious man was detained at Kaibab-Huachuca Residence Hall, 922 E. Fourth St., during an orientation session for incoming freshmen, June 5.
Two female students attending orientation told police they were walking from the hall to the Baskin-Robbins at East University Boulevard and North Tyndall Avenue.
A man approached one of the students, putting his face up to hers, and attempted to start a conversation.
The girls did not talk to the man and returned to the hall as the man followed them. A hall director then called police.
The man was informed of trespassing laws on campus and released.
A man suspected of illegal drug use was treated for a seizure in the Social Sciences building at 9:37 a.m., June 4.
Upon arrival, police found the man lying on the ground in a post-seizure state, disoriented. Paramedics transported him to University Medical Center for treatment.
The man consented to collection of a blood and urine sample for toxicology screening. The man denied illegal drug use but stated he had a prescription for Prozac. Police did not yet have the results of the drug test.
A resident of Sigma Chi fraternity, 1616 E. First St., reported on May 31 the theft of clothing valued at over $500 from his room.
The items reported missing included black Vans shoes, Lucky dungarees, Rusty corduroy shorts and Bullhead swim trunks. The theft took place May 30 between 9:30 a.m. and 1 p.m., police reports stated.
The resident said he returned to his room and noticed his door ajar. Then, about 5:30 p.m., the student reported seeing a subject stick his head in his room. The resident shouted at the subject and he fled.
The same day, University of Arizona Police Department officers were asked to meet officers from the Tucson Police Department at Buffalo Exchange, 2100 E. Speedway Blvd., because TPD had detained a man later identified as Terry L. Nichols II, 21, of the 50 0 block of East Limberlost Drive, for selling clothes believed to be stolen.
The clothes matched the description given by the fraternity member. Nichols said he got the clothes from a "friend," according to police reports. A check of Nichols' driver's license revealed a warrant for failure to appear on another charge of theft.
Nichols was then arrested on charges of possession of stolen property and theft. He was transported to Pima County Jail and later released.
