Another day, another blue-chipper.

On the heels of the verbal commitment of running back Leon Callen of California, Arizona received a verbal commitment yesterday from wide receiver Jeremy McDaniel of Fort Scott (Kan.) Community College.

The 6-foot 2-inch, 190-pound McDaniel is rated as the No. 5 receiver in the nation by Super Prep and last season caught 64 passes for 956 yards despite missing the last three games of the year with a broken finger.

"He's going to go out and be a leader," Fort Scott receivers coach Bob Grammer said. "He was our deep threat as well as a short pass receiver."

Grammer said that in terms of attitude McDaniel is the best player he's ever coached.

McDaniel chose Arizona over Michigan, a decision which Grammer is happy with as well.

"We (the coaching staff) have been watching out for Jeremy," Grammer said. "We think it's in his best interest to go to Arizona."

The formal signing period for athletes to sign national letters of intent begins Feb. 7. Arizona coaches are prohibited from commenting on recruits until that time.
