Of the 18 verbal commitments the Arizona football team has received, three have been from running backs and two have come from wide receivers. All the team needed was a big-time quarterback recruit.

Consider it done.

UA received a commitment yesterday from Ortege Jenkins of Long Beach (Calif.) Jordan High School.

Jenkins is the highest-rated recruit Arizona has picked up this year. He was named to Blue Chip Illustrated's All-American Dream Team after a senior season in which he threw for over 1,500 yards, and rushed for 700 more. He also passed for 14 touchdowns while running for nine.

The 6-foot-3, 208-pound Jenkins is said to be considering joining the UA basketball team. Jenkins picked Arizona over UCLA and Oregon.

Other recruits include Amphitheater High School defensive lineman Shon Early (6-3, 235) and Salpointe Catholic offensive lineman Jason Kopydlowski (6-4, 250).

The signing period for national letters of intent begins Wednesday.
