The Arizona soccer team has been on fire lately, winning three of its past four games. Yesterday, however, the hot Arizona sun almost put a damper on the recent string of wins.

"I think we let the heat get to us," sophomore midfielder Nikki Jones said. "We seemed really fatigued out on the field today and we weren't pressuring as much."

Despite any problems because of heat, Arizona recorded its third shutout yesterday, defeating Wyoming 2-0 at Wildcat Soccer Field in the final game of the Arizona Eiger Soccer Classic.

Wyoming dropped to 2-8 overall after losing both of its games this weekend, including a 6-0 shutout loss to Stanford on Sunday morning.

UA head coach Lisa Fraser said she was not entirely pleased with how the Wildcats (3-6 overall, 0-2 in the Pacific 10 Conference) played.

Arizona's first goal came seven minutes into the game. Senior forward and co-captain Christine Keeley passed the ball from the right side of the field to Jones, who was a few yards in front of the goal line, and skidded the shot past Wyoming freshman goalkeeper Katie Dorais.

Keeley, who leads the Wildcats with five goals, scored the team's final goal at the 22:46 mark. She raced up the left side of the field past Wyoming defenders and netted the goal past a diving Dorais.

"I'm not happy that there were chances we had, and we didn't put them away, and we should have," Fraser said. "I think we were a little lax at times and we just can't be. We have to score."

During the second half Arizona had a lot of scoring opportunities but simply could not convert its offense into goals.

"We are improving," Jones said. "We're having more of an offensive attack and we're putting more short passes together, but we could have cleaned it up a lot more today."

Arizona had five saves, compared to Wyoming's 11.

Senior goalkeeper Jen Weibel hurt her knee and left the game at the 28:10 mark of the second half. Weibel dove to the ground to save a ball and collided with a Wyoming player. Fraser said Weibel's status will be determined today.

Sophomore goalkeeper Christa Conway, who had played in only one game this season before yesterday, replaced Weibel. Fraser said Conway did a good job in preventing Wyoming from scoring.

"All around we were laying back and letting them play a little bit when we're definitely a better team and could have dominated a lot more," Jones said.
