The No. 20 Arizona women's volleyball team will travel to face unranked San Diego Wednesday night for the first round of the Championship Tournament, the NCAA Selection Committee announced yesterday.

Both teams were placed in the Mountain Region with such heavyweights as Hawaii, Pacific and Brigham Young.

"You never can count on the NCAA to provide you with an easy road," UA head coach Dave Rubio said. "I feel comfortable with the fact that we only have to travel to San Diego."

The Wildcats (19-9) were hoping to play a home match in the first round; instead, they have the distinction of being the highest ranked team to not open the tournament at home.

Rubio said he was glad Arizona didn't have to play in the Pacific Region, which includes Stanford, Loyola Marymount, Washington State and Southern Cal.
