A 15-year-old runaway was arrested and charged Thursday night with attempted robbery after a UA employee noticed the male trying to steal a Macintosh Newton notepad from the Computing and Technology Store on the third floor of the Student Union.

The male was looking at magazines when cashiers noticed the notebook by his feet. Witnesses said the male pushed the pad across the floor toward the door with his foot. The male noticed cashiers were looking at him, picked up the pad and gave it to the workers, saying he found it on the floor.

Police were informed of the incident and found him later near a pay phone near the Student Union. The male admitted to the attempted theft and said he was a runaway from the home he was ordered to live at.

The male was cited and released.

When the student returned, police told him he would be arrested for trying to remove the boot. The student told police he was only overparked in the spot for about 15 minutes and he didn't care if removing the boot was illegal.
