Polo players needed

The Pima County Polo Club is actively recruiting University of Arizona students who are interested in playing polo, club president Phil Tiboni said yesterday.

Arizona has had polo teams in the past that have participated at the club level and have competed in national collegiate tournaments, Tiboni said. He said the university has a polo tradition dating back to the 1930s.

Currently, the club boasts no UA students, but at least three alumni are listed as official team members.

The club, which is the 14th-oldest in the United States, opens its 1994-95 season this weekend with a five-team tournament that will include teams from Scottsdale, Texas and New Mexico.

The tournament will be held at The Club at La Mariposa, which is located at 1501 Houghton Rd. The entrance to The Club is north of Speedway Boulevard.

Play begins at noon on both Saturday and Sunday.

For more information on the club or to express an interest in joining, call Tiboni at 760-0240.
