A 19-year-old man was arrested and charged with two counts of aggravated assault and felony endangerment after firing a semiautomatic handgun after a fraternity party Sunday morning.
David M. Delorimier, of the 2800 block of West Elm Street, was arrested at 2:11 a.m. after he fired at least six shots into the air at the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity house, 1050 N. Cherry Ave., University of Arizona Police reported yesterday.
Delorimier and another male attended an ATO party Saturday evening, where they started arguing with house members and were escorted outside of the house. About 2 a.m., UAPD received a call from the house that Delorimier had jumped over the north wall of the yard and fired one or two shots into the air.
"We were sitting inside and we heard one shot go off. We heard one more go off, and we just hit the deck," said Eli Lyons, a UA student upstairs in the ATO house when the shots were fired. Lyons called 911.
Witnesses told police Delorimier then panned his gun at people in the yard and fired five more shots into the air. Between five and six males at the party then followed Delorimier and his companion westbound on East First Street to a parking lot on North Vine Avenue.
The two then drove out of the parking lot onto Vine in what witnesses reported was a red Grand Am. One of the party attendants then threw a bottle at the car. The car stopped and one of the men in the car pointed a gun at one of the males that followed Delorimier and his companion.
As the car drove away, another
male threw a rock at the car, which stopped again and prompted Delorimier to get out and say, "What do you want?" He entered the car again and it drove south on Vine.
Police found Delorimier running north on Vine, across East Helen Street and noticed him drop something on the ground. The suspect stopped and laid down on the ground as ordered by police. Police handcuffed him and recovered the item he dropped on the ground Ä a .45 mm Glock semiautomatic handgun.
Police were unable to locate the red car or the second male. The other male is described as white with dark hair, a white baseball cap worn backwards, a T-shirt, a white vest and blue denim jeans.
Police found five spent .45 caliber shell casings on the grassy area inside the ATO courtyard and another shell casing on the sidewalk nearby. UAPD reports say Delorimier said, "I didn't hurt no one. No one got hurt," and something to the effect that it "all went wrong."
Brian Moran, an ATO member who attended the party, said the two males had been at the party for several hours before being escorted out. He said nobody recognized them, but were allowed to stay because they were not causing trouble and house members were not sure whether they had been invited by alumi.
