The green grass that Arizona's boys of summer plays on does not get that way all by itself.

Frank Sancet Field, home of UA baseball, is crafted into one of the finest baseball diamonds in the nation by George "Bo" Vanture and Jeff Wilcox. In recognition of their efforts, the American Baseball Coaches Association has named the two men as its 1994 College Baseball Groundskeepers of the Year.

"I have long felt that our Sancet Field is among the best kept baseball fields in college baseball," said Coach Jerry Kindall, who nominated the duo for the award. "Visiting coaches and players often remark about the outstanding condition of the turf, the pre-game preparation of the field, and the friendly diligence of Bo and Jeff. ... All of us in the Arizona baseball program are proud of Bo and Jeff."

Said Vanture: "People always tell us how good we do, but until something like this happens you can never really tell."
