With Oktoberfest nearby, experience a German film as the German Studies Department presents "Was ich bin, sind meine Filme." During an interview, Werner Herzog tells of his childhood, his dreams, adventures, obsessions and his movies. FRIDAY, Sept. 30

"Meet the Author," a series of Friday evenings where a diverse mixture of award-winning authors read from their latest works, discuss their writing, answer questions and autograph their books, will feature Edward T. Hall, one of America's greatest anthropologists and author of the classic book, Silent Language. The reading is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. in the Social Science Auditorium on the UA campus. The UA Contemporary Theatre Series presents a reading of the new play, "Under One Roof" Friday at 8 p.m. at Peter Marroney Theatre at the UA Fine Arts Complex. "Under One Roof" is the story of a Mexican American family in post-World War II Tucson as it attempts to adjust to the after-effects of the war. The play is a "work-in-progress" and Gonzalez is an MFA candidate in the UA theatre arts department. For additional information, call 621-7008.

Marcus Roberts, musical director and pianist of the critically acclaimed Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra and onetime bandmate of trumpeter Wynton Marsalis, will lead his trio in an all-Gershwin concert at Pima Community College Center for the Arts tonight. The concert, which starts at 8 p.m. at the Proscenium Theatre on the West Campus, 2202 W. Anklam Rd., kicks off the Center for the Arts' year-long celebration of Pima Community College's 25th anniversary. For more information, call 884-6456.

The Tenth St. Danceworks will be in concert Friday, Saturday and Sunday, but they won't be performing on Tenth Street. Instead, they'll be at the DeMeester Outdoor Performance Center in Reid Park at 7:30 p.m. on those three nights, performing a concert of modern dance with an adventuresome twist. SATURDAY, Oct. 1

"One Foot On the Ground," an art exhibit featuring landscape paintings by Bruce McGrew, UA Professor of Art, will be at the Joseph Gross Gallery in the UA Art Building today through Oct. 28. A public reception will also be held Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. Gallery hours will be be Monday through Friday 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m. For information from the UA Art Department, call 621-1251.

The University of Arizona Symphony Orchestra, conducted by John Roscigno, will perform "Academic Festival OVerture" by Brahms, Symphonic Dances from "West Side Story" by Bernstein and Beethoven's Symphony No. 7 at Centennial Hall Sunday at 3 p.m. Tickets can be purchased through the UA Fine Arts Box Office, 621-1162, and Dillard ticket outlets. Come see Contemporary Slovak Works On Paper Sunday through Nov. 6 at the UA Museum of Art. Drawings and prints by nine Slovak artists will be featured, made possible by an international exchange program between the UA Museum of Art and the Municipal Gallery of Bratislava, Slovak Republic. Here's a way to get a few extra words into a novel Ä come to a book signing! On Wednesday, Professor Martin Hewlett will sign copies of his novel, Sangre de Cristo from noon to 2 p.m. at Arizona Bookstore, 815 N. The Etherton Gallery, 135 S. Sixth Ave., will present the work of three contemporary photographers working in three specific regions through Nov. 13. Bill Burke looks at casualties of conflict in Southeast Asia, Shelby Lee Adams continues his studies of present-day Appalachia, and David Scopick evokes a timeless Mexico. The gallery is open Tuesday through Saturday from noon to 5 p.m. except Thursdays when it's open until 7 p.m. During Downtown Saturday Nights the gallery remains open from 7:30 to 10 p.m. For more information, give 'em a call at 624-7370.
