A 19-year-old student was charged with possession of drug paraphenalia after an university police officer went to check on her unsecured car.

Sara Rosenthal of Graham-Greenlee Hall, 610 N. Highland Ave., was charged and referred to a diversion program on Sunday.

UAPD was alerted that a car was left with the front passenger door open and the rear passenger doors unlocked in a parking lot at Fourth Street and Highland Avenue.

The car had no license plate, so the officer opened the glove box to look for registration or other identification. When he opened the glove box, he found a silver smoking pipe.

Rosenthal said that the pipe was probably left there by a friend.
