Kaibab-Huachuca Residence Hall, 922 E. Fourth St., was evacuated early Tuesday morning after a strong odor of unknown origin made several residents ill.

At about 12:10 a.m., the hall director activated the fire alarm to evacuate the building. When the University of Arizona Police Department investigated, an officer observed a "very strong metallic perfumy odor."

Tucson Fire Department also arrived at the scene and treated two residents who became ill from the odor. TFD blew the odor out of the hallway. Neither TFD nor UAPD could isolate its location.

A student contacted UAPD Aug. 25 after discovering someone else obtained a student ID card in her name.

The victim discovered the other card existed after she tried to access her All Aboard account, but was denied because more than one card was in use. It was unknown if any funds were stolen from the account.

The victim said the suspect stole her checkbook from the Gamma Phi Beta sorority house, 1535 E. First St., during the spring semester, and also wrote a check from the stolen checkbook. The suspect then obtained an Arizona ID card, which was used to obtain the UA ID.

The case is still active pending further investigation.

Three students reported thefts from the book locker area of the Associated Students Bookstore, 1209 E. University Dr.

A student called police to report the theft of two purple folders containing checks with a total estimated value of $1,000. The student placed the folders in a book locker at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, but did not lock the locker, even though the key was available. When the student returned 20 minutes later, the folders were gone.

Another student reported his satchel, containing a spiral notebook, cassette recorder, prescription glasses and a library book, were taken between 4:30 p.m. and 4:50 p.m. Monday. He said he put the satchel down on a shelf and left it unattended while he shopped in the bookstore. The items are valued at $255.

The third student reported his backpack stolen between 9:50 a.m. and 10 a.m. Tuesday. The student put his backpack Ÿ containing notebooks, textbooks, keys, a day planner and a calculator Ÿ on a shelf near the bookstore's main entrance. When he returned, the bag was gone.

Later, the studentreported he had located his backpack in the Old Engineering building and the notebooks, keys and day planner were recovered. The calculator and textbooks are still missing and are valued at $180.

Two thefts were reported from lockers in the Student Recreation Center, 1400 E. Sixth St., on Tuesday.

The first student reported her purse, which contained credit cards and ID and room access cards, was in a locker when she began to take a shower at 6:55 a.m. When the owner returned around 7:30 a.m., however, the purse was gone. She said she did not put a lock on the locker. The value of the items was unknown.

A second student said his yellow cotton shorts, underwear, UA ID card and keys were taken from an unlocked locker between 5:30 p.m. and 7:20 p.m. The value of the items is estimated at $20.

A parking permit was stolen from a Toyota Corolla in lot 4055 Tuesday between 2:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.

The car's driver side window, which was already broken, was pulled downward about half-way when the $140 permit was stolen. No damage was reported and nothing else was missing.

A member of Delta Gamma sorority, 1448 E. First St., called police Tuesday to report numerous harassing phone calls the house has received since August 9.

The complainant said a male subject who identifies himself as "Paul" calls the house phone, asks the person who answers what she is wearing and talks about lingerie. None of the calls were obscene or threatening.

The victims said that on several of the occurrences, the caller tried to disguise his voice as a female. Background noises were heard in some of the calls, leading the victims to believe the calls were made from a fraternity house.

Police have no suspects.

A 19-year-old student was arrested early Tuesday on charges of minor in possession of a spirituous liquor.

Mitchell S. Karasik, of the 1000 block of North Tyndall Road, was arrested after the vehicle he was in was observed swerving.

After a traffic stop near Park Avenue and Sixth Street, an officer smelled a strong odor of alcohol coming from the vehicle and asked all four occupants to step out. Karasik was then cited and released.

A bicyclist was cited Tuesday for making an unsafe lane change after he collided with another cyclist.

Twenty-one-year-old Ammon Corl of the 800 block of North Treat Street was passing the other bicycle in the bike lane on University Drive near Cherry Avenue when the two collided.

The other cyclist was treated for scratches and abrasions at the Student Health Center and released.
