Indian mascots lecture

In response to a recent controversy involving two teams in the World Series, the Native American Resource Center will present a lecture by Dr. Cornel Pewewardy of Cameron University titled, "Indian Mascots, Nicknames and the Tomahawk Chop as Cultural Violence."

Pewewardy was National Indian Education Association "Educator of the Year" in 1991 and is recognized as one of the nations leading spokespersons on the Native American mascots in sports issue.

An invitation also was sent to students of Pueblo High School, whose warrior mascot has caused controversy at the school.

The lecture is tomorrow from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. in Gallagher Theater.
