Icecats put 3-game win streak on line

Arizona Daily Wildcat

The Icecats return to the Tucson Convention Center tonight for a two-game series with Colorado State.

The Rams were last season's American Collegiate Hockey Association Division II Champions, and because of that had to move up into Division I Ÿ the same 30-team division occupied by the Icecats.

Last season the Icecats swept the season series with the Rams, winning two games in Tucson and two in Fort Collins, Colo.

The fifth-ranked Icecats (5-1), winners of three straight, skated to road victories over Delaware and over Navy last weekend.

Both games will start at 7:30 and will be broadcast live by KTKT radio (AM 990).

Swimming, diving face New Mexico St.

The men's and women's swimming and diving teams face New Mexico State today at Hillenbrand Aquatic Center at 2 p.m.

After a 4-0 start, the women are looking to improve on a mark that is a career best for head coach Frank Busch.

"We are off to a great start," Busch said. "The women are on track for a good year, and the men are having a good year, despite a loss to USC. "

The women, who defeated UCLA 135-107 last weekend at Hillenbrand, are led by All-America swimmer Laurie Kline and diver Melanie Mabry.

Kline finished first in the 1,650-meter freestyle, the 400 individual medley and 500 free.

"Laurie is off to a great year," Busch said. "She's having the best season of her career."

Mabry won both the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events against the Bruins with scores of 259.28 and 298.88, respectively.

With a modest opponent in New Mexico State, the men's team is looking to rest a bit before the Pacific 10 Conference Championships Nov. 25-27.

"NMSU is not a real strong team," Busch said. "The Pac-10s are coming up and we'll try to rest up for that meet."
