An estimated $3,000 in computer components was taken from an office in the Harshbarger Building, 1235 E. North Campus Dr., sometime over the Thanksgiving weekend.
An employee reported the theft at 5:49 a.m. Monday, but asked police not to respond until 8 a.m. because he was leaving to go eat breakfast.
The employee reported a 540-gigabyte hard drive and 16 megabytes of RAM were removed from a computer. A briefcase also was taken from the room.
Police found a metal grate removed from a vent, which appeared to be how access was gained to the office. The building was unlocked to allow access to a computer lab.
Police reports noted that the grate and covers to the computer were neatly placed aside. No usable finger prints were obtained from the scene. Another employee saw a male, about 19- to 20-years-old with shoulder-length brown hair, sitting in the computer lab at about 3:05 one morning during the weekend.

Police referred a student to the Dean of Students Office Monday after he crossed police line tape near the Old Chemistry building, 1306 E. University Blvd.
Officers placed yellow "police line Ÿ do not cross" tape around the east and south side of the building to keep people away from a fire that occurred there at 8:54 a.m.
The student, on in-line skates, tried to cross the tape. An officer then told him not to cross. The man then tried to duck under the tape, causing it to become severed and separate.
Another officer blocked the path of the student, who told officers he thought he could go under the tape. He then said he thought he was on the wrong side of the tape and needed to get on the other side.
Police took the student's identification card and told him to leave the area.

A student reported his 1986 Jeep Cherokee, which was stolen from Park Student Center, 615 N. Park Ave., last week, was recovered by Tucson police Monday.
The Cherokee had a broken rear passenger window and a broken steering column, and was being repaired Monday.
