LA GRANDE, Ore. Ÿ A man who got steamed when a Denny's restaurant charged extra to substitute hash browns for eggs on his Grand Slam Breakfast was ordered to perform 20 hours of community service for creating a scene.

Michael Lawrence Fesser, 24, was accused of screaming obscenities at the manager, throwing a quarter at her and refusing to leave.

Greek party

Kappa Alpha Theta is hosting an All-Greek Homecoming Kickoff Party tonight from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. The party will be on the Mall in front of Cherry Avenue.

Kappa Alpha Theta received a $1,000 grant from the Health Promotion and Preventative Services to put on a non-alcoholic party for the Greek system.

Poetry readings

Eight undergraduate writers who have been selected for this year's reading at the poetry center will join the likes of Robert Frost and other great poets who have read at the UA.

Program director Karen Falkenstrom explained that every year, the undergraduate reading highlights eight undergraduates who "are, or show, potential to become excellent writers."

The eight writers selected for this year's reading are: Todd Finley, John Bible, Jennifer Lee, Kristen Gould, Maribel Sosa, Jamiee Kuperman, Jody Dido, and Ryan Van Whye.

The reading will begin Wednesday at 8 p.m. in the Modern Languages Auditorium.
