The Arizona women's volleyball team lost a tough five-set match to Oregon State yesterday afternoon 12-15, 8-15, 15-13, 15-9, 18-20, in Corvallis.

But a four-set win against Oregon Friday night gave the Wildcats (14-9, 6-9 Pacific 10 Conference) a split against the Oregon schools.

After dropping the first two games against the Beavers, Arizona forced a fifth game by winning games three and four. The fifth game was a speed scoring game, with a point scored on every serve.

Oregon State improved to 11-13 (5-9 in the Pac-10).

Barb Bell led the Wildcats with 29 kills. Heidi Bomberger added 18 digs and setter Laura Bartsch had a game-high and season-high 71 assists.

Friday's 13-15, 15-4, 15-11, 15-6 win over the Ducks (8-16, 1-12) broke a two-game losing streak for the Wildcats. Bell tied a career-high for kills with 26 while Carrie Penfield added 19 kills and Stephanie Venne had 12. Bartsch directed the attack, dishing out a 67 assists.

The Wildcats return home for the final home series of the season this weekend against Southern Cal Friday and UCLA Sunday.
