A man allegedly assaulted another student in the Student Recreation Center Monday because the student wouldn't stop "playing dirty" during a basketball game.
Police responded to a report of a "large fight in progress" at the center, 1400 E. Sixth St., at 5:47 p.m.
The victim told police an unknown man hit him in the back of the head during a basketball game, which lead to the fight.
A staff member said he saw the man hit the player. Staff members said they tried to detain the man, but he refused to remain there until police arrived and would not identify himself.
A community service officer spotted a person matching the suspect's description near La Paz Hall, 602 N. Highland Ave., at 6:30 p.m. When police arrived, the man asked, "Is this about the Rec Center thing?"
The suspect said the other man was "playing dirty." The suspect then asked the man to stop, but "he kept playing dirty, so I hit him."
The suspect told police he thought it was best that he left.
The victim declined to prosecute. The case was forwarded to UAPD detectives for follow-up.

A student told police he was injured and his bicycle damaged beyond repair after an unknown woman riding her bike drifted from a bike path and crashed into him.
The student said he was using an air pump around noon on Monday near the bike path north of Arizona-Sonora Hall, 910 E. Fifth St. A female on a bicycle was riding westbound when she crossed through the eastbound lane and hit him.
The woman did not appear to be injured and asked the man if he was okay. When the man told her he was, the woman left the scene.
On the way to class, the man noticed his lip was puffy and his front tooth was loose. The fork of his bike was also bent and damaged beyond repair.
The man said he was going to the Student Health Center to have his tooth checked. The damage to the bike is estimated at $200.

Someone tore the urinal stalls off a wall in the bathroom on the lower level of the Student Union, 1303 E. University Blvd.
Saturday at 10:15 p.m., a building monitor noticed that the stalls had been ripped off the walls, damaging their stainless steel brackets and some tiles on the wall.
A paper towel dispenser was also broken and a soap dispenser was removed from a wall but not damaged.
An estimate was not yet completed on the damage, but an employee estimated damages at $300 to $400, including labor and the cost of brackets.
