Workers at the North Park Avenue and East Lowell Avenue construction site ruptured a 3-inch gas pipe Saturday, forcing the evacuation of a building and closing traffic in the area for about an hour.
Police were dispatched to the scene at 2:30 p.m. and activated the fire alarm in the Life Sciences South Building to evacuate it. Intake vents on the south side of the building were bringing the fumes into the building.
The Tucson Fire Department and Tucson Police Department also responded. Southwest Gas arrived at 3:02 p.m. and repaired the rupture.

Police responded to several reports of assaults near Coronado Hall, 822 E. Fifth St., Friday morning.
Officers responded to the first call at 1:09 a.m. and found a man with a cut on his head near East Fifth Street and North Tyndall Avenue.
Police stopped two men walking toward Coronado after they were believed to be involved in the assault, however, they were not arrested. The victim was taken to University Medical Center by a friend.
Police were dispatched at 1:17 a.m. to a priority fight call at Coronado Hall. Upon arrival, there was a large crowd on the north side of Fifth Street, but no one appeared injured or wanted to make a complaint.
Officers then observed two men, John P. Finnegan and Lars I. Borch-Christensen, standing close to another group, antagonizing them with verbal remarks. Officers told them to leave the area, but then found them involved in another confrontation with a different group.
As the crowds thinned and officers were preparing to leave, a resident assistant told police a fight was occurring in the lobby of Coronado.
Police entered the lobby to find a large group with Finnegan and Borch-Christensen in the middle.
Several people in the lobby told police they were assaulted, but did not want to press charges.
Finnegan, 18, a resident of Coronado, was arrested on charges of disorderly conduct. He was also one of the men who police questioned in reference to the earlier assault at Fifth Street.
Borch-Christensen, 18, of the 100 block of West Morton Avenue in Phoenix, was also arrested and charged with disorderly conduct.
While investigating the fight, police made another arrest after they observed a man staggering through the crowd, shoving people. When police stopped him, he had a strong odor of alcohol on his breath and bloodshot eyes.
When asked for identification, the man handed police a Texas driver's license and said, "It's a fake license."
Scott A. Golman, 20, a Coronado resident, was then arrested and charged with minor in consumption of a spirituous liquor and possession of a fictitious out-of-state license. He was cited and released.

Police arrested two men Saturday who had two allegedly-stolen bicycles in the trunk of their car. The driver was initially stopped for a minor traffic violation.
The grey and blue Buick was stopped at 11:15 p.m. after an officer observed it going southbound on North Park Avenue at East Sixth Street. Signs at that intersection require southbound traffic to turn right only.
The trunk of the vehicle was open, with two bicycles hanging out. The bikes still had U-locks attached to the frames and tires of the bicycles.
The men said they had not unlocked the bikes because they had left their keys at home.
An officer then asked the passenger of the vehicle when he had bought the headlight on one of the bikes and if it worked. He said it worked and was purchased 6 months ago.
Since there was no light on the bicycle, the officer asked the passenger to get out of the vehicle and show him how the light worked.
The man just looked at the bike and said, "Okay, we know they're stolen. We just bought them for $30 a piece."
The men said they purchased the bikes from a man on the north side of Coronado Hall, 822 E. Fifth St.
Marcos P. Nunez, 18, of the 1400 block of East Mossman, was charged with theft by control and also failure to obey a traffic control device.
Joel James Monroe Holman, 19, of the 700 block of West Calle de Casas Linda, was also charged with theft by control.
The men were cited and released.

Another man was arrested on theft charges Saturday after he was seen carrying a bicycle seat.
Wolfgang Schevrer, 26, of the 1400 block of East Copper St., was arrested and charged with theft under $250.
He was taken to Pima County Jail for processing, but was released.

A 1996 4-door Ford Explorer LTD was stolen from outside the Mirror Casting Facility, 527 N. Warren Ave.
It is valued at $27,000.
There were no signs of forced entry and there was no evidence found in the area.
