Brothers sentenced to 12, 18 years for reservation slaying

PHOENIX Ÿ A federal judge sentenced two brothers to prison Monday for the June 1994 beating death of a man on the Navajo Reservation.

Joseph Sayetsitty, 29, of Window Rock, was sentenced to 12 years in prison and Larry Sayetsitty, 40, of Monument Valley, was sentenced to 18 years by U.S. District Judge Robert C. Broomfield.

The brothers were convicted of second-degree murder in separate trials in the death of Jerry Stanley, who was kicked and beaten to death at a friend's house in Kayenta.

The Sayetsittys allegedly followed Stanley to his home after he fled an altercation near Diversion Dam, three miles west of Kayenta.

Coach gets 'life sentence' for molestation

PHOENIX Ÿ A volunteer softball coach convicted of molesting three girls over a four-year period has been sentenced to what essentially is life in prison.

Barry Patterson, 50, was sentenced in Maricopa County Superior Court Monday to 89 years. He was convicted last month of eight counts of sexual abuse, child molestation, sexual conduct with a minor and public indecency.

Patterson was accused of molesting the two girls, who were then between 7 and 11 years old, between August 1989 and March 1994.
