Work-study funding

The University of Arizona is seeking funding for a new work-study program.

The university is requesting $1.25 million from the Arizona Legislature to fund the program that would give the students career-related experiences. The state would pay half of the student's salary and the employer would pay the other half.

"I'm impressed (and) excited because I've never heard of the administration asking for additional funding for financial aid before," said Ben Driggs, Associated Students president.

If the state Legislature appropriates money to the program, it could pay 100 students $2,000 a year.
