A 21-year-old student was charged with assault Friday after he hit someone in the Student Recreation Center.

Khaled Swailem, of the 1000 block of North Windsor, was arrested for allegedly hitting someone on the left side of the jaw after the two fought over who's turn it was to play basketball.

The center's facility manager told police that the victim had just completed a game of basketball and was supposed to leave the court. Swailem told the victim to leave the court, but he did not.

The two got into an argument, and Swailem allegedly hit the victim. The victim told the facilities manager that he did not want to press assault charges and agreed that a coin toss would decide who would play.

The victim lost the coin toss and decided to press charges.

Swailem told police that although he and the victim argued, he did not hit the victim.

Witness told police they saw the argument but did not see the assault.

Swailem was cited and released on his promise to appear.
