Twenty years ago, Terry Lundgren participated in the University of Arizona's Career Week as a student. Yesterday in Gallagher Theatre, Lundgren played a part in the event once again Ÿ this time as chairman and CEO of Macy's and Bullock's parent company.
Lundgren, head of Federated Merchandising and Federated Product Development, spoke to students and local business people at the Retail Career Fair Symposium, part of the UA's Career Week.
The UA alumnus advised the crowd of at least 50 people about building a retail career, and answered questions about his own rise in the business world.
"I went through Career Week 20 years ago. It will give them a chance to be successful," Lundgren said.
Designed to give UA retail and marketing students a glimpse into the business world, the symposium was coordinated by the Southwest Retail Center for education and research.
"I hope to get a general understanding for what I am already studying," said Joseph Madrid, SWRC student advisory board chair.
Representatives from the School of Family and Consumer Resources were also present.
"This enhances retailing as a career option for our students," said Dr. Soyeon Shin, division chair of retail and consumer studies. "I want to encourage our students to look beyond the entry-level positions."
