UA to face Georgia Tech

ASUA passes budget

The Associated Students Undergraduate Senate unanimously passed a budget for the fall semester last night.

ASUA will receive $359,756 for the first half of the 1995-96 year.

A senate budget also was passed, allocating $12,060 for the ASUA senate board and their goal expenditures. Part of this allocation will be used for travel expenses, a transcriber and individual projects being run by ASUA senators.

The senate will meet again Wednesday to discuss any amendments that need to be made to the budget.

Geometry lecture

Lucas Hsu will speak on sub-Riemannian geometry at 3 p.m. today. Refreshments will be served at 2:30 p.m. in Mathematics Building Room 501.

The talk will center on geometry associated with sub-Riemannian structures.

Scottish dance classes

Scottish Country Dancing (old jigs and reels of the 18th Century) will begin next Thursday, September 14. Newcomers are welcome.

Classes will meet at 7:30 p.m. in the social hall of the First United Methodist Church, 915 E. Fourth St. A partner is not required.

The Tucson Branch of the Royal Scottish Country Dance Society, in affiliation with the University Scottish Music and Dance Association, will give the classes throughout the year.

The cost of the classes is $7.50 a month. To register, or for information, call Jack Lyon at 621-6554.

Annual Walktoberfest

The 4th annual Walktoberfest, hosted by the American Diabetes Association, is a walk-a-thon held throughout the country.

The Tucson chapter's event is expected to attract 1,200 local walkers and raise $60,000 for diabetes education programs and medical research aimed at curing diabetes.

The event will be held at 8 a.m. on Oct. 1 at Reid Park.

African American brunch

The office of African American Student Affairs is hosting its 13th annual welcoming brunch for both new and returning students on Saturday.

It will be held in the Student Union Arizona Ballroom from 9 a.m. to noon.
