Editor: I read Mike Ruane's letter defending university bicycle cops (April 18). It doesn't jive with my experience.

A few months ago I was riding my bike at night. The infamous bicycle cop gave me a warning ticket in front of Old Main for not stopping fully at a stop sign. Ticketing people for California stops? I was going about two miles an hour on my clunky old bike, slowed even more at the sign, and had looked both ways. Not only was there no one at the intersection, but there was no one else on the whole Mall.

A few days later I saw the same bicycle cop ride right across the lawn near the Administration building. I yelled out to him that he was violating university bicycle laws, but he ignored my remarks, pretending not to hear.
