A UA student was arrested early Wednesday morning on charges of driving under the influence of alcohol and failure to stop at a red light at East Speedway Boulevard and North Park Avenue after police spotted the student driving without headlights.

Lee M. Wielebski, 24, of the 900 block of North Euclid Avenue, was arrested after police saw a white sedan with no headlights traveling westbound on East Sixth Street, police said. Police followed the car as it turned north on Park and saw the vehicle proceed through a red light at Speedway.

Police then pulled the car over into the 7-Eleven parking lot, 1001 E. Speedway Blvd. Upon approaching the vehicle, police noticed that the driver was not inside and passengers still sitting in the car told police the driver had gone into the store "to buy some beer," police said.

When Wielebski returned, police detected a strong odor of alcohol coming from his mouth and he seemed to be holding onto the car door for support, police said. When asked, Wielebski told police he had consumed three beers.

Wielebski agreed to perform field sobriety tests and due to his performance, police placed him under arrest for suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol, police said.

At UAPD, police administered a breathalyzer test to Wielebski which showed his blood-alcohol level registered at .130, police said.

Wielebski was cited and released and his driver's license was suspended, police said.
