KEINO, SCHAFFER HEADLINE ARIZONA'S ENTRIES AT MT. SAC

Members of the Arizona track and field team will compete in the Mt. Sac Relays today through Saturday in Walnut, Calif.

At the relays, the Wildcats will be trying to qualify for the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, which will be held May 31 through June 3 in Knoxville, Tenn.

The Mt. Sac Relays annually field some of the top track and field athletes from across the nation.

Highlighting the UA's entries are Martin Keino, who will be looking to set an NCAA qualifying mark in his third different race of the year (the individual portion of the 5,000 meters), Viola Schaffer in the 10,000, Suzanne Castruita in the 5,000 and Dawn Mortensen, Leo Simmons and Armon Williams in the hurdles, among others.

UA STUDENT-ATHLETES HONORED FOR ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENTS

Seven Arizona student-athletes earned a perfect 4.0 grade-point average and were honored as distinguished scholars at the Mary P. Roby Academic Achievement Awards Luncheon Tuesday.

One hundred twenty-two student-athletes from 17 of Arizona's 18 intercollegiate teams were given the award, which is named after former UA associate athletics director Mary Pavlich Roby and honors student-athletes who have earned a 3.0 GPA or better for two semesters.

The seven student-athletes with 4.0s were Jan Anderson (men's tennis), Rebecca Butt (women's track and field), Andre Sabbah (men's diving), Wayne Wyatt (football), David Brokl (men's golf), Jonathon Pillow (men's track and field) and Temujin Thompson (men's golf).
