The UA men's tennis team's consecutive dual-match win streak of four came to an end against Arizona State yesterday as it was ousted by the No. 17 Sun Devils 5-2 at Whiteman Tennis Center in Tempe.

Arizona (4-12 overall), which has now lost nine straight matches, dropped to a 0-7 in the Pacific 10 Conference South and might not earn a playoff spot.

The No. 1 singles player in the country, Sargis Sargsian, defeated the International Tennis Association's 20th-ranked singles player, Jan Anderson, 6-2, 6-3. Anderson now holds a record of 23-12.

In doubles, the tandem of Anderson and Eddie Schwartz beat Sergio Elias and Wolf von Lindeau 8-5, but the Sun Devils took the point by winning the next two pro set matches to take an early 1-0 lead.

The two points the Wildcats got came from Chris Jenkins, who defeated No. 79 Paul Reber 3-6, 6-1, 6-3, and James Rey, who beat von Lindeau 6-0, 6-4.

Sten Sumberg was defeated by Sergio Elias 6-3, 6-3.

The Wildcats will play 27-5 Oregon today at La Paloma Country Club at 1 p.m.
