If you're looking for an alternative to the multiplex horrors of Hollywood cinema this weekend, look no further than the Screening Room.
The Arizona Center for the Media Arts will present two early films by legendary filmmaker Stanley Kubrick.
Kubrick's 1955 film "Killer's Kiss" is a whirlwind account of revenge when a boxer's relationship with a working girl leads her boss to commit murder. The relatively short film (67 minutes) is a tour de force of gritty energy, culminating in an exciting fight finale.
Also showing at the Screening Room this weekend is Kubrick's high suspense crime thriller "The Killing," which features a stand out performance by cool guy Sterling Hayden, as well as one of the greatest foiled heist plots ever conceived. Hayden and a brilliant ensemble cast attempt to pull off a huge racetrack robbery that almost goes smoothly. "The Killing" also has tight, masterful tough-guy dialogue courtesy of pulp author Jim Thompson, and a warped and influential narrative time sequence that truly keeps the viewer in suspense.
